Over deze ervaring

Duur: 5 uur

An activity involving a descent on foot along the Ribeira da Pena (Góis), using jumps into the water, slides, down-climbing, abseils and crossings through the water.

This stream runs through a narrow, steep valley whose bed, banks and slopes are formed by impressive crags that make this place almost inaccessible. For this reason, this valley still serves as a refuge for rare and unique plants and animals. This is the most spectacular stream in the Central Region, combining a wild, inhospitable setting (formed by countless waterfalls, pools and imposing rocks) with lush vegetation and distinctive wildlife.

For the canyoning, the organisers provide the following equipment: wetsuit, neoprene socks, personal protective equipment (helmet, harness, descender), specialist backpacks, and dry bags and containers.

This canyoning trip has an initial 35-metre abseil to enter the stream (optional – the organisers decide whether to do it depending on the group and the weather conditions). It has around ten optional jumps of various heights.

The whole route is followed along the course of the stream (out of or in the water), using down-climbing and jumps from stone to stone.

At the end, a walk of about 30 minutes is required to reach the village of Ribeira Cimeira.

Recommended seasons: spring, summer and autumn (April to October).

Goed om te weten

You should bring water and a light lunch: sandwiches, fruit, energy bars, nuts, etc.

You need to bring footwear for walking in the water: trainers or plimsolls or boots with a thick, rough sole (do not bring sandals or neoprene shoes). Footwear is the responsibility of the participants.
You may bring a Lycra top to wear under the wetsuit.
The organisers have waterproof backpacks to carry participants’ lunch, but the amount should be moderate.

We suggest that participants eat something before the trek so they do not have to carry as much weight during the activity. It is important to bring sun cream. Those who wear prescription glasses should attach a cord so they stay more secure.

Verzamelpunt
