Your experience begins with pick-up at your hotel in Lisbon, in a private vehicle, heading to Tomar, one of the most emblematic cities of the Order of the Templars.

Visit the impressive Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, founded in 1160. Originally made up of a walled town, a esplanade, a military house and the knights’ oratory, the Charola, completed in 1190, it was turned into a convent by Infante D. Henrique in 1420, when he led the Order of Christ. In the early 16th century, King Manuel I extended the complex with a new wing outside the walls, whose decoration celebrates the Portuguese Discoveries and the spirituality of the Order.

Also explore two Templar churches and the former Synagogue of Tomar, and taste the region’s traditional ginjinha.

After lunch, we continue to the enigmatic Almourol Castle, built on an island in the River Tagus. This medieval castle recalls the time of the Christian Reconquest, having been taken by the Christians in 1129. Rebuilt in 1171 on the orders of Gualdim Pais, it is part of the set of fortresses attributed to the Templars. The visit also includes Quinta da Cardiga, which belonged to the Orders of the Temple and of Christ, where a beautiful Manueline portal and 17th- and 18th-century tiles stand out.

We return to Lisbon in the late afternoon, after a deeply enriching day.
