About this experience
Experience the best of Madeira’s natural beauty, traditional cuisine, and rich culture on this unforgettable journey. From off-road adventures and mystical laurel forests to a beach swim, a traditional barbecue, and an authentic Poncha-making workshop, every moment is designed to connect you with the island’s heritage and landscapes.
We begin our journey by heading to Ponta do Sol, where you’ll pause to take in a stunning view of the south coast (Ribeira Brava). Then, we drive up to Paul da Serra (1,400m), guiding you off-road through an old path once used by locals to travel across the island, surrounded by a beautiful eucalyptus forest.
Continuing to Fanal, you’ll explore one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders—a mystical landscape shrouded in ancient laurel trees, part of the UNESCO-listed Laurisilva Forest. This enchanting setting, often veiled in mist, is home to some of the island’s oldest and most unique biodiversity, offering a truly otherworldly experience in the heart of Madeira’s untouched nature.
From there, our journey continues toward Ribeira da Janela, where you can admire the remarkable farm terraces, known as Poios. Next, we’ll visit Seixal, a charming village famous for one of Europe’s best volcanic sandy beaches, where you’ll have the opportunity to swim for an hour and marvel at the breathtaking northern coast.
Afterward, we’ll head to Chão da Ribeira for an unforgettable and delicious lunch in a lush green setting in the heart of Madeira’s natural park. This experience blends nature and culture through traditional cuisine.
Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of Madeira wine as an aperitif. Then, Chef Sérgio will explain the meal and invite some volunteers to participate in the preparation of the traditional grilled beef skewer known as Espetada (a vegan burger option is available). The meal begins with the unique and delicious Bolo do Caco with garlic butter and grilled chorizo. Side dishes include local boiled potatoes and a mixed salad. Drinks—red wine, orange juice, and spring water—are included.
For dessert, indulge in a luscious homemade passion fruit pudding, perfectly paired with a rich, aromatic coffee, slow-boiled over a wood fire—just like in our ancestors’ time. A truly unforgettable taste of tradition!
To conclude this unique sustainable experience, we’ll visit São Vicente to meet an organic honey producer, where you’ll explore the rich flavors and health benefits of pure, local honey while discovering traditional beekeeping tools used throughout history.
Finally, you’ll take part in an interactive Poncha-making workshop, where some guests will have the chance to prepare Madeira’s most iconic drink. Then, sit back and enjoy your freshly made Poncha while admiring a breathtaking panoramic view over the magnificent valley of São Vicente.
