Festa da Flor
Funchal’s spring festival of flowers, with parades, carpets of petals and walls of colour.

Each spring, Funchal celebrates the Festa da Flor — the festival of the flowers of Madeira. The city decorates itself with flowers and the parade brings the gardens of the island into the streets, in a celebration of colour and scent that is one of the best-loved of the Madeiran year.
History and traditions
The festival grew with the island’s tradition of gardens and of flower growing, and became the great spring celebration of Madeira: the streets of Funchal fill with flower carpets and walls, the children’s parade opens the festival, and the grand parade gathers the flowers and costumes of the island in the centre of the city.
