Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina
A wild Atlantic coastline of cliffs, beaches and dunes, from Porto Covo to Burgau, protected as a natural park.

The Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina protects one of the last wild coastlines in Europe, stretching from Porto Covo in the Alentejo to Burgau in the Algarve. Cliffs, beaches, dunes and rocky coves follow one another along the Atlantic, with a rich marine life offshore.
A wild Atlantic coast
The park was created to protect a coastline that has escaped heavy development, with a great variety of habitats: sheer cliffs, sandy beaches, estuaries and the marine environment. It is also an important corridor for birds and a refuge for rare plants adapted to wind and salt.
What to see and do
- Beaches and coves along the coast, from Aljezur to Sagres.
- Coastal walking routes, including sections of the Rota Vicentina.
- Surfing and other water sports, where conditions allow.
- Wildlife, including birds and, offshore, dolphins and whales.
Visiting the park
The park extends along the south-west coast, in the Alentejo and the Algarve. Access is free; for trails, beaches and seasonal restrictions, check the official information before your visit.
