Jardim Botânico do Porto

A botanical garden in the grounds of the Casa Andresen in Porto, with collections, greenhouses and a historic estate.

The Botanical Garden of Porto

In the grounds of the Casa Andresen, in western Porto, the Jardim Botânico do Porto combines a historic estate, formal gardens and scientific collections. Its trees, greenhouses and quiet corners make it one of the most pleasant green spaces in the city.

A garden in the city

The garden belongs to the University of Porto and occupies the former Quinta do Campo Alegre, whose house, the Casa Andresen, now holds a museum and the university’s natural history collections. The garden itself is laid out in terraces and woodland, with plants from different climates.

What to see

  • The formal gardens and the historic trees of the estate.
  • The greenhouses and the botanical collections.
  • The Casa Andresen and its museum collections.
  • The nearby Serralves estate and the Foz do Douro, a short walk away.

Visiting the garden

The garden is in the Campo Alegre area of Porto. Opening hours are published on the official website, so check before your visit.
